Lets know how to review the computer games

Playing computer games, or gaming, is almost certainly the most popular pastime in the world. Children do not play football in the street t as far as they used to, they sit in their bedrooms or in video cafes playing video games. This means that there are always millions of kids playing video games, discussing computer games or reading about them.

Reviews of video games are everywhere, but still there is a colossal demand for more. If you want to write reviews on video games, you will find eager publishers on Web gaming sites and if the reviews are good, you might kave them published in gaming magazines as well. So how do you go about writing a review of a computer game?

The first thing to do is establish your target audience. Gamers are on all sorts of levels, but in essence you can say that there are beginners, hobbyists and experts. So who are you capable of writing for. Obviously, an expert will be searching for a more detailed review than a beginner.

What is your own degree of expertise? You will find it almost impossible to write on a level much higher than that and still be credible. If you attempt to fudge it, people will see through it and know that you do not really understand what you are writing about, so review to your ability / knowledge of the game and try to increase your ability / knowledge.

Each game attempts to be different, but they share a commonality nevertheless. So, there is a fundamental set of questions that should be addressed no matter which game you are reviewing.

The questions include: does it load quickly? Is there a choice of characters? What are their powers? Is the action smooth and fluid? Are the colours true? Is the action fast? Does the game crash? Can it be played by more than one player at a time? Can you play it on line?

Players on each level want to know the answers to questions like those. Other vital information is: which machines can it be played on? What specifications does that machine or PC need to run the game at top speed - CPU speed, RAM, HD free space and screen resolution.

More advanced players will require to know about precise locations or characters in the game. They might also be searching for a way to get out of a situation that they find impossible to sus out. They will require to know how to earn trophies and what these trophies confer upon the owner.

Experts and hobbyists might be searching for so-called cheats. Cheats are special, undocumented commands that allow someone in the know to do something extraordinary. They may bestow unlimited lives or super powers or permit you to jump to any stage in the game.

Specialists may also be interested in the heritage of the game: who wrote it, who programmed it, who did the graphics, whether it is based on another game and other technical details.

So, you need to gain a deep understanding of the game by having played it really often and to a high level if not the highest level and you have to be honest with what you find and present your findings in an unbiased fashion.

PC Games let us more with the spirit of freedom

In the great bastion that is the video game industry, there was one company that still catered to the few, the proud, the hardcore PC gamer.John Carmack, id figurehead, sent a Tweet to calm the anger, saying, "Everyone, make sure you have latest Nvidia/Ati drivers to play Rage!" That was little consolation to gamers who insist they have the latest drivers installed in their souped-up PC rigs.

At least, thats what its mission statement might say. But it appears the companys latest release, Rage, is not up to snuff. All over ids forums and game websites around the Web, gamers are complaining about graphical problems with the game on their PC.

Curiously, it does not appear to be an issue with those playing the console version of Rage. Could it be that id is now slipping into the convention of catering to the console audience? It is, after all, a much more lucrative market these days. That company is called id Software, the maker of such cult classics as Doom and Quake. Even in a world where gaming is being overtaken by consoles, iPhones, and casual titles, id remains faithful to its hardcore audience.

This isnt just a story about a computer game that failed to live up to expectations. It is symbolic of the massive shift that the video game industry has undertaken in the last several years. If a company like id has more satisfied console gamers than PC gamers, that tells quite a story.

CRYSIS 2 Terror may also let you die

This one comes with slightly different reasoning. In a way its perhaps not fair to knock the PC version of Crysis 2 in comparison to its console counterpart, but for PS3 and 360 players the sequel had so much more impact.

Thats because theyd never played the original Crysis. Its a game that was something of a technological revolution for its time. Even the highest-end PCs struggled to run the beast upon its release, maybe thats why it still looks so good today.

While the original made concessions for nobody, the follow-up was built with the restrictions of the console in mind and so didnt quite match the impact of its predecessor. Its certainly why PC players were a little bit disappointed by the sequel. Crysis 2 might run better on PC but, as far as the overall experience is concerned, gamers coming in cold on the console have got it best.
